The kids had a week long fall break in October. We were hoping to take a Space A hop to Hawaii but things didn't work out as planned (twice)! Nathan took leave the whole week before so that we would be higher on the list. They usually have at least one flight a day leaving Travis but for some reason they cut back/cancelled a lot of the flights leaving right around the time we were hoping to leave. We got to the terminal around 5 am on Saturday and there were about 12 seats available. I think we were 3rd on the list so we were hopeful we would get on especially since most groups of people had 4 or less people. They called the first group and there were only 2 of them! Then they called the second group and of course they were a family of 6! They walked in about 5 minutes before roll call but because they took leave a day earlier than Nathan they were higher up on the list. We were left with 4 seats which obviously didn't work for our family so we didn't get on.
They were going to have 2 flights the following day (20 or so seats on the first flight and then about 10 the next flight). We thought we were golden since there were quite a few seats and we should have been at the top of the list. Nathan made arrangements (air b&b and rental car) and we were all set! We showed up the next morning around 5:30 am and found out that the first flight was going to have about 30 seats but that the second one was only going to have about 5. It was a lot busier this time which made us nervous but we still had high hopes we would get on. Once roll call came along I think we were 5th on the list. It looked as though we would just barely make it. They called the first couple groups and all of them were bigger groups. Once it got to us there should have been 7 seats available which would have been perfect. Unfortunately, some people were talking with the flight people about their situation being an emergency. If the flight people agree that your case is in fact an emergency then you get bumped up higher on the list. Of course they agreed and those people got bumped up which then left us with 4 seats again... Just my luck! With the next flight only having 5 seats we didn't even attempt it and the next flight scheduled wasn't until Wednesday. Everyone was bummed!
When we got home we quickly changed into our church clothes and went to Sacrament meeting. Once we came home from church we decided last minute to go to Universal Studios and maybe Disneyland.
Our trip down...
Easton got sick several times on our trip down. My AC wasn't working very well so we were all dying the whole way down.
