December 2024

Blair played the guitar for a group of ladies at our Ward Christmas Party.

Don't ask me what my children are wearing...interesting choice in clothes and shoes!

I still haven't gotten a very good video of Eden singing and dancing...She often gets really into it.

Should I be worried when the kids ask to use my phone?

I think I should use the sound for Halloween next year! How about KK's evil laugh at the end?

I loved every single song Blair's choir did for Christmas!

Just a boy and his dog!
I think it is safe to say that Easton and Beau missed each other while Easton was away at college!

Christmas!

Nathan's grandpa passed 5 days before Christmas. Grandpa was an amazing man and we miss him dearly!

This is what I wrote on facebook a couple weeks before he passed. Nathan asked everyone to write a favorite memory or story about Grandpa Dyer so Dyer could read them and feel everyone's love for him.

We LOVE and admire Grandpa Dyer so much that we named our son after him!
Just as others have said, Grandpa will drop everything to help others out. When we moved from California to Florida we needed help driving one of our cars at the last minute. Grandpa got on a plane right away and was ready to help in any way he could. We had quite the adventure that trip!
When Nathan was deployed the church began allowing 11 year old boys to get the Priesthood. Grandpa and Grandma didn't hesitate to jump on a plane so Grandpa could ordain Easton...I don't know many people who can say their Great Grandpa ordained them!
Grandpa's pretty handy with wood working! He's made us a set of marbles and jokers, corn hole, and he even made me a mirror! All of which I treasure!
Grandpa loves his family and does a great job keeping in contact with everyone! He usually calls Nathan but every once in a while he'll call me...usually by mistake! He has another granddaughter named Ashley that he's usually trying to get ahold of. Every once in a while he'll call and say, "I meant to call you!" Love you Grandpa!

Nathan and his siblings after the funeral service.

Both my boys somehow forgot to pack a tie for the service so they each inherited one of Great Grandpa's ties. They both wear his tie here and there almost a year later. I love that they both have something of his to remember him by.

Here's his obituary:

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dyer Ross Stockton on December 20, 2024, at the age of 85. Dyer passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Dyer will be deeply missed and forever treasured for his humor, generosity, and kindness with everyone he met. The impact left by Dyer will forever leave a lasting memory on everyone who loved him. He filled this world with love and light.

Dyer was born on January 1, 1939, in Okanogan, WA. Dyer was the beloved son of Gretchen and Elwood Stockton and grew up in Twisp, WA. He was elected the student body president of Twisp High School and graduated in the class of ’57. After high school, Dyer served in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1961. Initially, Dyer was sent to Monterrey CA. where he studied Russian for several months but then the Air Force changed his assignment to telecommunications and sent him to Korea instead. While there he served as a telephone lineman. Due to his mother’s death, Dyer was honorably discharged from the Air Force and returned home to his family in Fairfield, ID. Dyer was very proud of his military service and wore his veteran’s hat and flew the flag proudly at his home for all to see.

Dyer applied his telecommunications skills to working for Mountain Bell Telephone Company and enjoyed a 20-year career there. He then spent many years at the Idaho National Laboratory where he worked in telecommunications as well.

On June 30, 1962, he married the love of his life, Fern Holverson Stockton. They shared 62 beautiful years together here on earth. In March 1973, Dyer and Fern took their children to the Idaho Falls Temple where they were sealed together for time and all eternity.

Dyer had many passions including his love for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He remained an active member throughout his life.   He and Fern served a mission from 2005-2007 in the Texas, Dallas Mission.

Dyer had a deep love for music. Throughout his life, he played the guitar, sang, and performed karaoke whenever he found the opportunity to.

He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, golfing, and reading.

Dyer is survived by a large and loving family.  His beloved wife, Fern Holverson Stockton: his daughters: Gretchen Stockton Uehling (Jerry) and Jessica Stockton Prestwich (Bryen); along with them, he also has Jeanne Isom (Mark) and family, whom he has adopted as his own; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dyer Stockton Jr.; his parents Elwood and Gretchen Stockton; his brothers: Gary Stockton and Randal Stockton; and his parents’ in-law, Jerry (Jiggs) and Florence Holverson.

The family would like to thank Aspen Home Health & Hospice for their loving and kind care.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on December 28, 2024, at Eagle Rock Stake Center, 2020 S. Charlotte Dr., Idaho Falls. A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First Street, Idaho Falls, and one hour prior to services.
